Bend
Ale Trail

About the Bend Ale Trail

Launched in 2010 as the first beer trail in the West, the Bend Ale Trail has grown to include over 30 breweries and tasting rooms in seven territories. It includes ale houses from Sisters to Prineville to Redmond, and, of course, Bend. Each territory features some of our favorite activities in Central Oregon as well as Drinkable Diversions. Stop by the Bend Visitor Center for a free collectible passport or use the web-based app to start right away.

Frequently
Asked Questions

01
WHAT IF I AM JUST MISSING ONE STAMP BECAUSE THE BREWERY WAS CLOSED?

Prizes will not be given for incomplete passports, but don’t worry – you can take as long as you like to complete your passport. Some guests do it over multiple visits spanning months or even years.
Keep in mind that each brewery has varying hours and open days, so please check schedules before you start. You must visit every brewery in a territory to win a prize.

02
DO I HAVE TO DOWNLOAD THE APP?

No! The app is web-based, so you won’t find it in any app store. Just go to BendAleTrail.app on your smartphone, create an account, and you are ready to go.

03
ARE THE SAME BREWERIES ON THE APP AND IN THE PAPER PASSPORT?

Almost. A handful of breweries have closed and a few have opened since the paper passport went to print. We will update the passport next time we go to print, but for now winning prizes is a tiny bit easier with the passport.

04
WHY AM I BEING ASKED TO ALLOW LOCATION SERVICES?

The app works best when you allow it to use location services. With this enabled, you can easily check in to all breweries and Drinkable Diversions with GPS.

05
WHAT DO I DO WHEN THE APP THINKS I AM IN A DIFFERENT BREWERY?

A few breweries are very close together and it can happen that GPS thinks you are in a different establishment nearby. If this happens, look for the Bend Ale Trail or Drinkable Diversions sign in your location and enter the manual code on the lower right corner of the sign.

06
HOW DO I GET MY PRIZES?

When you have visited every brewery location in a territory (or seven Drinkable Diversions) you are eligible for a unique prize. If you are using the app, you will be prompted to redeem your prize when you have visited every location. If you are using the paper passport, you will have a bunch of stamps in your passport. Either way, come to the Visitor Center and claim your goodies.

07
SOME BREWERIES HAVE MORE THAN ONE LOCATION. CAN I VISIT ONE LOCATION AND GET STAMPS FOR ALL OF THEIR LOCATIONS?

Nope. One stamp or check-in per location, not per brewery.

08
I AM THE DESIGNATED DRIVER FOR MY GROUP. CAN I GET STAMPS FOR A DESIGNATED DRIVER PRIZE AND A TERRITORY PRIZE AT THE SAME TIME?

No. Double stamping is the number one party foul.

09
ARE BEND ALE TRAIL TERRITORY TASTER GLASSES AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE?

Nope, but Visit Bend has plenty of other Bend Ale Trail merchandise available for purchase including postcards, hats, bottle openers, and more.

10
CAN EACH MEMBER OF MY FAMILY REDEEM A BEND ALE TRAIL ™ PASSPORT FOR A SOUVENIR?

Yes, as long as each family member is 21 or older.

11
CAN I BRING MY FRIEND’S BEND ALE TRAIL PASSPORT AND PICK UP THEIR PRIZE?

Yes, as long as your pal is at least 21 and you bring along the original Bend Ale Trail Passport. If your friend used the app and has completed a territory, we need authorization from them to release their prize.

12
IF I FORGET TO CHECK IN AT A BREWERY, CAN I GET A STAMP AT VISIT BEND?

Sorry, nope. Visit Bend does not provide Bend Ale Trail Passport stamps. The fun of the Bend Ale Trail is enjoying Bend’s fine craft breweries, so make sure you consult the hours before setting out. When it’s time to claim your prize, check the hours for the Bend Visitor Center to be certain we’re here to pat you on the back and hand over your prize.

13
IS THERE A DEADLINE TO TURN IN A BEND ALE TRAIL PASSPORT?

There’s no deadline to complete the Bend Ale Trail, so take as long as you like. That said, prizes are limited to stock on hand.

14
CAN I REDEEM MY BEND ALE TRAIL PASSPORT AND RECEIVE MY PRIZE BY MAIL?

No. Due to the fragile nature of the prizes, you must collect these in person.

15
DO I NEED TO COLLECT STAMPS OR CHECK IN TO BREWERIES IN A CERTAIN ORDER?

You can trek the trail in any order you like—no need to follow any special route!

16
CAN I TAKE MY UNDERAGE CHILDREN INTO THESE BREWERIES?

Generally, yes. Please contact the brewery if you have questions or need additional details. Minors are not eligible to complete a Bend Ale Trail Passport.

17
HOW CAN I GET AROUND THE BEND ALE TRAIL WITHOUT DRIVING?

There are plenty of awesome operators offering Bend Ale Trail tours. We have the Bend Brew Bus, The Bend Tour Company, and more. Some of the Bend Ale Trail is bike-able, and parts are walkable. Review the map to decide what you’re up for.

18
CAN I STILL GET A TROPHY FOR COMPLETING A TERRITORY DURING BEND ALE TRAIL MONTH (NOVEMBER)?

Nope. As part of our move towards more sustainable practices, we are no longer giving away trophies for Bend Ale Trail Month. We will, however, give out a very sweet prize to everyone who completes a territory during Bend Ale Trail Month. Limit of one per person.

19
CAN I RECYCLE THE PAKTECH PLASTIC CAN-CARRIER THAT HOLDS TOGETHER THE 6-PACK OF BEER I BOUGHT FROM ONE OF BEND’S AMAZING BREWERIES?

Yes, but don’t put them in the recycling bin! Bring them to a local collection center, either the Visit Bend Visitor Center or Crux Fermentation Project.
